It’s been a busy busy weekend!

Man, this weekend was busy! I’ve had the itch to move my guinea pigs herd back upstairs now that I spend much more time upstairs with sewing. The problem was we have limited space, and to make room for their big cage, a ton of furniture rearranging and cage rebuilding had to happen. I didn’t realize this was going to take all weekend!

Mostly Saturday was spent unloading bookshelves and moving them and a tv to make room for the cages. Then I spent time deep cleaning our herds cage so it wasn’t going to be too big of a mess when we eventually moved them. I also moved the foster cage and had to rebuild and reinforce the base grids of the cage with what felt like a million zip ties. My poor fingers tips are so sore and red from placing so many zip ties. I know I used well over 100, as I had to buy a new pack to keep building the cages lol. reinforcing and moving the fosters cage was the biggest time consumer, but my trusty AirPods and audible got me through it!

Today, I spent all day rearranging my sewing set up so I could make a bit more room for where the Guinea pigs were going to be, Then we moved the herd. Of course, I thought it was going to be simple, since their cages are on 6ft folding tables, so no grid base building was involved. But noooooo. Of course both of the cages didn’t quite fit like I planned, so I had to spend a couple of hours tweaking the cage and zip tying more grids. I actually ran out of zip ties again! Luckily I had some sturdy cotton twill ribbon I wasn’t using and just tied strips of that around the grids until I get more zip ties in. Honestly, the ribbon worked out kinda nice. I don’t have to worry about sharp plastic ends of cut zip ties scratching me. I do plan to tweak the cage a bit more, once I have more material to work with. I will need more coroplast as well as make myself custom liners again to fit the new set up. But at least I was able to get everyone moved and settled back into their cages. I will focus on reorganizing the chaos that was left in the wake of all my crazy redecorating tomorrow and the next couple of days.
